In this Unit we will talk about Charities and Health. We will see how to write an article and vocab for health. We will examine the Narrative Tenses as well as looking at the Future Perfect and the Future Continuous. There will also be some Phrasal Verbs and Prefixes.

Narrative Tenses

Narrative tenses are verb tenses that are used to talk about the past. They are often found in stories and descriptions of past events, such as personal anecdotes.

Example 
The following are examples of narrative tenses:

  • Past simple - 'We left on a rainy day'

  • Past continuous - 'It was pouring down even at midday'

  • Past perfect - 'It had rained off and on for ten days'

  • Past perfect continuous - 'We had been waiting to escape for what seemed ages'

 

Complete the text using the correct form of the verb. Type the verb into the gap.

 

Last Friday I arranged (arrange) to meet my boyfriend at a restaurant. I (1)_______________  (arrive) first and because it (2)_____________   (pour) with rain, I went inside. After an hour my boyfriend (3)____________  (arrive)! His clothes (4)________________   (be) soaking wet and he was covered in mud. Apparently he ________________(5)   (wait) at a bus stop when a car (6)____________________   (drive) straight through a puddle and (7)____________________  (splash) him from head to toe. Past Perfect

 

The Past Perfect can be one of the most difficult tenses for non-native speakers to get to grips with. To test your knowledge of the Past Perfect, try to complete the exercise below. The is an additional test in the document below.
