VERB PATTERNS
Verb Patterns in English can be quite difficult, for example some verbs like "finish" are followed by a gerund....He finished working
Other verbs, like "want" are followed by the infinitive....He wanted to leave.
And some verbs, such as "make", are followed by the infinitive without to............It makes me cry .
There are no simple rules to know when to use the gerund or the infinitive, unfortunately it is just a matter of becoming familiar with the verbs.
